Danica Tormohlen

VP, Content, Tarsus Group

An award-winning journalist who has reported on the trade show industry since 1994, Danica Tormohlen is VP of Content for Tarsus Group, which was recently acquired by Informa for $940 million. In her role, she oversees content for Trade Show News Network, Corporate Event News and Exhibitor News Network. These leading media brands publish websites, newsletters, social media channels, video, podcasts and online and in-person programming for the trade show, corporate event and exhibition industries.

 

Tormohlen was a founding member of Women In Exhibitions Network North America chapter and was appointed to serve on the executive committee in March 2023. She served as Co-Chair of the Education & Events Committee for the North American Chapter in 2021.

 

Prior to joining Tarsus in January 2023, Tormohlen was founder of Live & Unfiltered Media, a trade show content strategy and production company. Her client roster featured some the world’s leading media and exhibition organizations, including UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry; ASM Global, the world’s leading venue management company and producer of entertainment experiences; SHOT Show, a top 100 U.S. trade show; and Avant Food Media, where she provided trade show content and analysis at the International Baking Industry Exposition, a top 100 triennial trade show held in Las Vegas.

 

Prior to launching her own content business, she served as Content Director, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief for the Society of Independent Show Organizers, the leading global association for independent show producers like Informa Markets, RX Global, Emerald X, Tarsus Group, Clarion Events, Diversified Communications, Comexposium, Questex, dmg events and North Star Media Group — just to name a few. She oversaw content for the association’s web site, newsletters, social media channels, video channels, case studies and programming at SISO’s three events, including the SISO CEO Summit, SISO Summer Conference and Asia CEO Summit.

 

She served as editor at large at Trade Show Executive for 10 years and as Editor-In-Chief and Publisher of EXPO magazine, where she worked for 16 years. In 2020, Danica earned three journalism awards for editorial excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

 

In her role at Trade Show Executive, Tormohlen wrote and produced content, including news, features, case studies and profiles for the monthly magazine, weekly e-newsletter, social media channels and the web site. She is passionate about educating readers by offering analysis of trends, insight into technology and presenting new ideas and tips to help them do their jobs better.

 

She also served as Editor-In-Chief and Publisher of EXPO magazine, where she worked from 1994 to 2010. Over the years, Tormohlen has won numerous awards for outstanding editorial and design, including the Folio: Eddie Award for Editorial Excellence in the travel and hospitality category and the Gold, Silver and Bronze Azbee Awards for Editorial Excellence in business-to-business journalism.

 

Beyond WIEN, she is active in the trade show and media industries. She served on the education committee for the International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE). She has spoken at a variety of industry events, including the TSNN Awards, IMEX America, IAEE, SISO, Large Show Roundtable, American Business Media, ASBPE, Trade Show Executive Gold 100 Summit, Trade Show Executive Fastest 50 Summit, SMG Annual Sales Meeting, Orange County Convention Center Client Advisory Board Meeting and Convention Sales Professionals International.

 

On the B2B media side, Tormohlen is a founding board member of the Kansas City Chapter of the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). She previously served as a national board member for ASBPE. Tormohlen has volunteered her time to serve as a judge for the Neal Awards and Azbee Awards.

 

A proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Tormohlen lives a suburb of Kansas City. She is married with two kids, a 19-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter, and two Weimaraners. She is an avid runner.

 

Tormohlen values being active in her community, where she served as President, VP and Board Member of both the Parent-Teacher Association and the Highlands Elementary Community Education Foundation. Danica is currently a member of Kansas City Chapter of the National Charity League, a multi-generational philanthropic organization of mother and daughters who volunteer close to three million hours annually to 6,000+ charities in the U.S.
